Welcome to Arris Studios
Arris Studios is the showcase for the creations of Dan and Miriam Land. We believe that even functional objects should be beautiful. These pages show you some of the objects we have created. We hope you enjoy viewing them.
KaleidoscopesDan makes a variety of wooden kaleidoscopes. All scopes are made with front-surface mirrors and magnifying eye-lenses.
Dan is an artist member of the Brewster Kaleidoscope Society. |
WoodworkingDan is responsible for the woodworking. Most things he creates are made from locally harvested and air dried Appalachian hardwoods. The wood is the true source of the beauty for the objects he makes.
Dan is a master woodworker with the East Tennessee Woodworker's Guild. |
CarvingDan has studied carving with many special carvers; notably Larry Nowell, Helen Gibson, Vic Hood, and John Burke.
Dan is a member of the Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers Assoc. He uses primarily butternut and basswood in his carvings. |
QuiltsMiriam is a quilter. She is a member of the Smoky Mountain Quilters Guild.

In woodworking, an arris is the place where two surfaces meet, like the sides of a board. Arris Studios is the place where our hobbies meet, and where creativity meets function.
