Ambrosia Sunrise
This is my entry to the 2018 Master Woodworking Show. The show will be held November 3-5 at the Emporium on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, You're invited to join the fun. Friday night is open galleries in Knoxville, so after visiting our show check out the other galleries downtown.
The table top is an Ambrosia Maple radial cut slab. When I first looked down at this slab I was reminded of a sunrise coming out of the wood. The design is based on that concept. The turned walnut base represents the sun and is inlaid with brass filings and dyed crushed stone, which breaks up the piece into the fissures representing the changing solar surface. The surface is finished with metallic glitter representing the fire on the surface. The metallic rods (brass, patinated copper, and stainless steel) are the rays supporting the reflected sunrise of the top.
The piece is 18" high, 40"wide x 27" deep, approximate. $1000
